The Odyssey School's singular approach to educating young people works.In 2008, the Colorado Department and Board of Education recognized Odyssey as a Colorado School of Distinction--one of the state's top nine schools for academic growth. Odyssey was founded in 1998 and moved to Stapleton in 2003. We are an award-winning, innovative school serving an intentionally diverse population. One-third of our students come from poverty backgrounds; one-half are children of color. Together, we reflect Denver's overall populace. Anne & Peter Thulson: School of the Poetic City Does Puppets
Anne and Peter Thulson are back to take you to Denver's Art Museums and Galleries.
Our art making in the afternoon will focus on making individual paper mache puppets that will progress throughout the week as we see more and more art. We will also continue our tradition of placing small art interventions into the city's cracks and crevices. We provide snacks, art supplies, museum entry, and transportation fees.
Anne is Odyssey’s art studio teacher; Peter teaches kindergarten and first grade at the Rocky Mountain School of Expeditionary Learning.

The Odyssey School: Summer Sports Series
An average American child spends 27 hours a week watching television—and much less than that outside. In summer, hours can add up. Revoke that remote and get your child up and moving with Odyssey Summer Sports Series.
Students develop an understanding of exercise and sport training techniques, fundamentals of team sports, and what it takes to be a team player. Through training and playing sports, students learn leadership skills, collaboration, commitment and determination—all while having a terrific time!
Each day focuses on a different sport: soccer, rugby, ultimate Frisbee, basketball, and a Friday field day featuring classic coordination-building games like three-legged races, egg-and-spoon race, water-balloon tossing, etc. Available for one week only!
Taught by Odyssey's, Peter Barclay, teacher's assistant and semi-pro rugby player for the Denver Barbarians.

The Odyssey School: Summer Skills for K-5
A typical child loses more than a month’s worth of knowledge in math, reading and language arts during the summer months. Created by The Odyssey School to help all students retain the basics of numbers and words, each morning’s instruction will emphasize continuing development of skills. We will reinforce grade-level benchmarks and extensions. Each child will receive individual attention each day and lessons will also be differentiated, focusing on skills needed to be built up. Instructors are Expeditionary Learning teachers and teaching assistants. A certified reading teacher will be on hand to work with emergent readers and to build comprehension for older students.
All 8 weeks 9 a.m.-noon
The Odyssey School: Minds-on, Hands-on Afternoons
Using Expeditionary Learning style, students will develop arts, crafts, and cooking skills while learning valuable math and language concepts. Enrichment activities will include music, games, science experiments, and outdoor play. We will also be leaving campus about once a week for fieldwork experiences, to such places as museums, nature preserves, and the Zoo.

Simple Machines & Electricity (July 13-24)—How do simple machines work? What can we invent? What are the benefits and costs of technological progress? This slice will focus on science, with integration of math. Reading and writing are to be infused throughout.
Colonial America & Foundations of the U.S. Government (July 27-Aug. 7)—Who is an American? How was our government formed? Why did we end up with a democracy? This slice will focus on humanities. Reading, writing and math are to be infused throughout.
Frontloading content primes students for success in the coming school year and overcomes the single biggest obstacle in learning, insufficient background knowledge. Whether as a preview (for continuing Odyssey students) or a stand-alone experience (for non-Odyssey students), this Summer Expedition will be adapted to meet each learner’s needs and interests.

Need to drop your child off earlier than enrichment program starts? Early drop-off is available each morning from 8-9 a.m.

Give yourself an extra hour in the day. Have your child stay for lunch after their morning enrichment program or come early before their afternoon enrichment program. Available each day from noon-1 p.m. (Lunch is included with all full-day programs.)
